We can learn the falah economy concept ? a well-being-oriented economy ? from Islamic business. This goal has been around far longer than the sustainability debate, which started with the Brundtland Report in 1987. The falah economy also predates the Sustainable Development Goals by many centuries. These goals were announced in 2015 and adopted by all the United Nations? member states as a universal call to action to improve the environment and society by 2030. This book invites the reader on a journey of discovery of the key pillars of Islamic business, detailing its concepts and outlining how they impact corporate functions, such as finance, marketing, and human resources, while also shedding light on corporate behaviours with regard to, for example, contracts and charitable activities.About the authorsWolfgang Amann is professor of strategy and leadership at HEC Paris in Qatar where he serves as academic director of degree, certificate, open enrolment and custom programs.Steffen Roth is full professor of management at the La Rochelle Business School, France, and adjunct professor of economic sociology at the University of Turku, Finland.Amina Dchieche is assistant professor in the finance department at Rabat Business School. The scarcity of studies on waqf may arise from the lack of data and the lack of transparency in the economic and political structure of the many Islamic countries. A waqf can be used not only to provide immediate necessities to the poor, but also to create or strengthen business support institutions that can lower the cost of doing business for the poor. A waqf can also be used to support and build infrastructure institutions that can improve corporate governance and reduce the cost of doing business. For example, information bureaus, market regulatory bodies, the provision of accountancy services, and other such shared services for a group or for the entire society can be funded through waqf. Thus, this audiobook focuses on the application of these concepts and some possible roles that waqf may play in the socio-economic development of the Muslim societies. 1. Language: English. Dr. Mahathir, Father of Modern Malaysia, is a juggernaut in the modern history of Malaysia of which economic progress has been considered a showcase of socioeconomic development and the ability to increasingly bring about equitable distribution of income to its citizens, in an environment of high growth and general price stability, can only be matched by few countries. During the global recession of 1981-82, Dr. Mahathir assumed his leadership in the government. He managed to create an entrepreneurial revolution especially enhancing small business by providing easy microcredit in order to eradicate hardcore rural- urban poverty in Malaysia. Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) is that sort of institution which was welcomed by Dr. Mahathir's government in 1987 as a full-fledged microfinance institution. This organization is the oldest replications in Asia with some Islamic adjustments of the Grameen Bank model that was initiated in 1983 by Nobel winner Dr. Yunus. However, the present study pregnant with empirical evidence suggests that poverty alleviation in Malaysia is not the outcome of microfinance scheme but of some other strategies articulated by far-sighted statesman Dr. Mahathir.

Western business, banking, and personal investment models focus on obtaining profit and storing wealth through the accumulation of interest, dividend payments, or the sale of negotiable futures-often linked to individuals or groups that have no vested interest in the success or failure of the investment scheme. Social responsibility or community investment and development take a derived role in the individualistic Western investment model requires complex finance and capital structure equations to obtain the highest return on investment for the individual or organizational shareholders. In addition, because of its lack of a tangible asset base, the Western model is primarily projection driven and subject to the volatility of political instability, changes in taxation policies, and social undercurrents. This cycle is compounded by the expansion of the global economy and the proliferation of economic dependence, labor exploitation, and exportation of domestic economic stability in favor of short-lived corporate or personal profits that find themselves eroded by inflation and an expatriated asset base, but it appears that the Shariah compliant Islamic finance provides a solution.
